A JOI TO BEHOLD
Crowned by the press as "TV's Marilyn Monroe," model, singer, film and television actress Joi Lansing was born April 6, 1929 (as Joyce Brown) in Salt Lake City, Utah to Virginia Grace (née Shupe) Brown, a housewife, and Jack Glenn Brown, a shoe salesman.

In 1961, Lansing played the part of Goldie with James Coburn in the NBC western Klondike. In 1963, Lansing appeared in Falcon Frolics '63, which was a broadcast honoring the men stationed at the Vandenberg Air Force Base. Besides being an actress and model (of both fine store clothes and not-very-clothed calendar pinups), Lansing broke into night club entertaining. She had first taken up singing on stage during an actors strike in the early 1960s. She also cut her first record album in 1965, which contained songs written especially for her by composer Jimmie Haskel and actress Stella Stevens. The following year she performed in the Fiesta Room in Las Vegas. (Also featured on the bill were comedian Red Buttons and, ironically, sexpot rival Jayne Mansfield, who would be killed in a car crash just one year later. Speaking of the Grim Reaper, on August 7, 1972 Lansing died at 43 of breast cancer at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, where she had initially been treated surgically for the same disease in 1970. Once when asked who she felt was the most attractive man she ever worked with, Lansing very surprisingly named Ozzie Nelson, who played the father on The Adventures Of Ozzie And Harriet TV series. (The two had played a love scene in a Jane Wyman-hosted episode of the TV drama Fireside Theater.) She swore that he possessed the greatest sex appeal of any actor with whom she had worked. Ozzie Nelson? Go figure! Lansing's Listings: Bigfoot (1970) Hillbillys In A Haunted House (1967) Marriage On The Rocks (1965) Who Was That Lady?
